US stocks climbed Tuesday as retail stocks including Wal-Mart Stores Inc got a boost from a rise in January retail sales and M&A activity builds following a $3.25 billion take-over offer for Circuit City Stores Inc. The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 both touched fresh highs for 2005. The Dow was up 48.06 points, or 0.45 percent, at 10,839.19 and the S&P was up 5.00 points, or 0.41 percent, at 1,211.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 15.36 points, or 0.74 percent, at 2,098.27.
