Government to ensure peace during Muharram: Shaukat

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Friday that the government was determined to ensure peace and harmony during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram enabling Muslims to fulfil their religious obligation with solemnity. He was talking to a delegation of Ulema, which met him at the Prime Minister House here. The Prime Minister said the government has made all necessary arrangements and the interior ministry and provincial authorities have been directed to take all precautionary measures to ensure peace during Muharram.
He appealed to Ulema to help maintain peace and harmony and asked them to beware of elements, trying to create instability and misunderstandings among Muslims. He said, terrorists have no religion and their only objective was to create disorder. The entire world was looking towards us and we need to project a better image by demonstrating that we are a peace-loving nation, he added.
On the occasion, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ejaz-ul-Haq and Minister of State for Religious Affairs Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain briefed the meeting on the measures taken by the government in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram.
Some delegates drew the attention of the Prime Minister towards problems and difficulties being faced by them and requested him for their redressal.
The Prime Minister directed that a committee be constituted to look into the grievances and directed the minister to submit their recommendations in consultation with the provincial governments as well as the interior ministry. The meeting ended with prayers for solidarity, integrity and prosperity of the country.
