The average price of Bangladeshi teas fell by nearly 7.0 percent to 72.56 taka ($1.14) per kg on lower overseas demand at the second last weekly auction of the season on Tuesday, brokers said. More than 779,491 kg were sold at an average price of 72.56 taka per kg, down 5.42 taka from previous sale. The withdrawal percentage was 12.94, a market report by National Brokers Limited (NBL), the country's largest tea broking firm, said.
Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the auction.
"The average price fell as buyers from Afghanistan and the Commonwealth of Independent States did not attend," Rafay Nizam, a director of NBL said.
Different grades were sold between 30 taka and 120 taka per kg.
The final weekly auction of the outgoing tea-growing season (April-March) will be held on March 15, with an expected offering of nearly 700,000 kg of tea.
