Tobacco growers advised

10 Mar, 2005

The tobacco plantation usually starts in the first week of March and continues till the end of March in NWFP, said a press release issued here by the Pakistan Tobacco Board. It said this year due to incessant rains, cold and cloudy weather, the growth of nurseries remained slow. Moreover, field preparation has also been affected due to rains. The weather has now become favourable and the growth of nurseries has accelerated.
Therefore, tobacco growers are advised to do weeding/thinning in their tobacco nurseries and apply Tamaron 600 SL or Thiodan 35 EC @ 20 ml per 10 liters of water to their nurseries for controls of insects and pests, if any.
The tobacco growers have also been advised to prepare their tobacco fields immediately, and make ridges three feet apart and plant the tobacco seedlings on the top of the ridge at a distance of two feet from each other.
