Rally against ban on two-stroke rickshaws planned

10 Mar, 2005

All Punjab Rickshaw Taxi Unions Federation announced to hold a rally from Lytton Road to Governor's House on March 31 in protest against the ban imposed on two-stroke rickshaws in the Punjab province. Chairman of the Federation Muhammad Javed Sabir and Chairman Muttahida Rickshaw Taxi Drivers Union Muhammad Asghar Khan Mohmand told newsmen here on Wednesday they were restarting their movement against that decision of the provincial government.
They made an appeal to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab to order immediate withdrawal of the ban. They alleged neither any company was manufacturing four-stroke rickshaw in the country nor it was being imported. They further said that the existing two-stroke rickshaws could not be converted into four-stroke or switched over to CNG.
They claimed not two-stroke rickshaws but substandard mobil oil and petroleum products were causing environment pollution.
