Encroachments termed main cause for life and property losses

District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood has described encroachments as prime factor for loss of life and property caused by fire incidents at Alfateh Store, H. Karim Baksh in Liberty Market and Bhandara Centre, Ichhra. Talking to a delegation of city traders who called on him here on Wednesday, he pointed out that the fire fighters faced difficulties in extinguishing fire in those cases due to encroachments.
He directed Data Gunj Baksh Nazim Tariq Sana Bajwa to remove encroachments around Alfateh Store at Liberty Market in collaboration with the Liberty Market Traders Association (LMTA) so that roads could be repaired immediately.
Mian Amer said that occupying the space beyond the building line was not only an illegal acts, but also harmful for the traders.
He said the city government would extend full co-operation to the Lahore Electric Supply Corporation (Lesco) and the traders' associations for removal of encroachments, illegally placed air-conditioner plants, proper placement of electric transformers in various city markets.
He called upon the traders of Liberty Market to make arrangements for replacing defective wiring from old buildings, besides improving fire alarm systems to avoid fire incidents in future.
The delegation was comprised of co-ordinator Ravi Town, Mian Talat Ahmad, Alfateh Store owner, Anees Iqbal Sheikh and the LMTA office bearers.
