US stocks rose slightly on Thursday as high oil prices boosted energy stocks, while media shares got a lift after Viacom Inc said it is considering splitting into two separate companies. Viacom rose about 3.3 percent to $37.20. Also, Time Warner Inc, the world's largest media company, rose 3.1 percent to $18.67 on speculation that it could be the next to sell or spin off assets.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 1.48 points, or 0.01 percent, at 10,634.55. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.83 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,190.90. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.63 points, or 0.23 percent, at 2,020.38.
