The government of Pakistan has decided to allocate 1250 acres of land for 'Textile City', out of which 700 acres has been allotted, whereas the remaining 550 acres will be allotted by Port Qasim Authority. Director, Textile City Board, S.M.Munir, told newsmen that according to plans 68 plots of 5 acres, 14 plots of two acre, 27 plots of one acre and 90 plots of half acres would be developed, initially. He said that the designing and planning work of Textile City has been assigned to Nespak.
He noted that earlier the directors of boards were generally from government side but on the request of Textile Minister Mushtaq Cheema the Prime Minister has appointed three directors from private sector.
He said that in the next two to three months the Prime Minister is expected to perform ground-braking ceremony of the project.
He said that the procedure of allotment of plots is yet be finalised. However, plots allottees would have to establish industrial units within prescribed period. Those who would fail to do so their plots would be cancelled and deposited money would be forfeited Munir said that the Textile City would be provided 25 million gallons water, 1.5 million cubic metre gas and would have its own 100 MW four-generator power house.
He said that Textile City would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 100 million, out of which federal government would provide 50 percent and the rest would be provided by Oman Bank, Pak Libya Holding Company, PIDC, Port Qasim Authority, Pak Saudi Bank, and Sindh government.
