THE RUPEE: mixed trend in currency market

19 Mar, 2005

Marginal adjustment was seen in the value of the rupee versus the dollar in the inter-bank market on Friday as dollars' demand persisted by the major banks to meet the imports payments, money experts said. High inflows of dollars as a result of significant improvement in the remittances, the supply was matching with demand and keeping the fluctuations in the limited range, they added. Due to this factor, the rupee-dollar parity rates are likely to move in the tight range in the near future, they observed.
In the world markets, the dollar posted gains versus the leading currencies, dealers said.
The rupee, however, gained 25 paisa in relation to the euro for buying and selling at 79.65 and Rs 79.95, dealers said.
