Lawyers in twin cites observe strike

The lawyers of the twin cities' lower courts observed complete strike and refrained from the court activities here on Tuesday. They demanded the dismissal of the additional session judge of Rawalpindi, Mirza Asad and police officials involved in thrashing lawyers recently. The Rawalpindi Islamabad Bar Association had given the strike call. According to details, the Gujar Khan lawyers' chambers and library were demolished while the lawyers were manhandled and baton- charged the other day.
Lawyers of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as a token of solidarity held protest demonstration at Rawalpindi, but they too became targets of police baton charge and tear gas shelling.
Advocate Supreme Court, Ikram Chaudhry talking to Business Recorder said they would continue the agitation till their demands were met. He condemned the police action against lawyers and demanded of government to take stern action against the concerned police officials. He also demanded the Supreme Court to take suo motto action of the incident.
He said the lawyers were holding a peaceful protest but police following the orders of session judge manhandled them. He asked the lawyers to be united against the unconstitutional ways of the government.
