An eight-member delegation of academicians and researchers from different educational institutions of Sweden visited the University of Karachi and met Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui and other faculty members here on Thursday. The delegation members led by Professor Dr Ramon A. Wyss from Swedish Royal Institute of Technology told the KU faculty members that the purpose of their visit was to explore ways and means for linkage and collaboration between departments at the University of Karachi and various educational institutions at Sweden.
Vice Chancellor KU Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui informed the delegation about the academic and research programmes at the university.
He also informed the delegation about various areas where collaboration and linkage programme between the KU and Swedish institutions could be undertaken.
He said that short term faculty exchange programmes, Ph.D. programmes and joint collaboration research programmes could benefit the researchers of both the countries. The delegation visited the department of Microbiology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Biotechnology, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry and other departments.
Chairman Higher Education Commission Professor Dr Attaur Rehman had taken initiatives to make possible the visit of the delegation to various Pakistani universities. Other members of the delegation were Professor Ruth G. Dalhammar, Professor Prosun Bhattacharya, Professor Nils D. Wahlberg, Professor Afzal K. Sher, Professor Bjorn R. Pehrson, Professor Leif O. Kari, Professor Ari Laptev.
