Partly Facetious: what they will be remembered for

25 Mar, 2005

"Balochistan is in a state of civil war almost."
"Sheikh Sahib of the Disinformation Fame gave his own rather interesting explanation."
"What?"
"He said internal forces are responsible for the situation."
"As opposed to external forces?"
"Yes. Remember the government was initially dismissing the insurgency in Balochistan as the work of outside forces and terrorism."
"Don't think they believed their own rhetoric then. If I remember correctly President Musharraf said he would hit the Balochis so hard they wouldn't know what had hit them. If he had thought it was outside forces he would have attacked..."
"He did attack according to the Balochis, the situation in Dera Bugti."
"He may have attacked but he didn't announce it. I mean he kept denying that the armed forces had launched an operation."
"Like that word!"
"What word?"
"Operation. Sounds so much more humane if you know what I mean."
"Indeed."
"Anyway if Zia's legacy was the Afghan fiasco I think Musharraf will be remembered for the rise of the Baloch insurgency..."
"Yes, and what would Nawaz Sharif be remembered for?"
"Stupidity and Musharraf."
"Ah yes. And BB?"
"BB would be remembered for Asif Zardari."
"What about the Surrey house. Apparently AZ has claimed ownership now as they want to sell the house."
"Ah yes. It wasn't reported in our Press was it?'
"I don't know. I read it in the Guardian of London."
"Hmmmm."
"What else did the Disinformation Minister say?"
"When asked about President Musharraf's remarks against religious parties, he said the President had spoken against extremists, defined as those who imposed their views on others. The President believed that one should not give up one's beliefs but also not interfere in others beliefs."
"One wouldn't imagine he is talking of the guy who has a team of Lotas, yes men, and a man who has changed the country's constitution at will, a man who has..."
"Yes but the yes men have no belief other than to have some trappings of power and the constitution was changed for the national interest."
"And you are full of it too it seems."
"Hush. That's anti-state."
