Work on Chashma II starts

Work on extension of Chashma Power Plant, called as 'Chashma II' has started for the erection of civil works and preparation of designs of the plant. Engineer Pervez Butt, Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, told Business Recorder here on Friday that official ground breaking of the project will take place next month. He said: "You will know soon", when asked who would performing the official ground breaking, and went on to mingle with foreign and local guests at the closing of the five-day international conference on Nuclear Safety Management on Present and Future Power Plants.
The conference was co-hosted by PAEC with International Atomic Energy Authority which had sent in a strong delegation of safety experts.
Chashma II, which in fact is the extension project of main Chashma nuclear powerhouse, is being build mostly with indigenous knowledge and know-how gained during the erection of the first one. China is of course associated, supervising and monitoring the designs and works.
