Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has said that Pakistan today is offering very big potentials for investors and entrepreneurs because of the economic policies being pursued by the present government. He was speaking as chief guest at the "Networking Dinner" on the occasion of ITIF Asia-2003 for delegations and participants of the exhibition and conferences, both local and foreign at the Governor House here on Saturday.
"The exhibitions and conferences being participated by foreigners in large numbers and visits by foreign delegations and investors gives an ample testimony to the fact."
Soomro said: "The potential available is amply visible and for creation of this environment here. I thank the entrepreneurs, the governor and the chief minister of Sindh as well as all those who matter in this respect."
Pakistan, he pointed out, is definitely a large market with growing population, rising income, buying power, cheaper labour, simplified laws and regulations, judicial system, consistency of policies, availability of infrastructure less production cost besides, available market potential, and offers everything that an entrepreneur would like to have for making investment.
All these aspects have been addressed and continue to be focussed upon by the government so that entrepreneurs and investors feel at ease, he added. The Senate chairman noted with delight that people are now taking advantages of the growing opportunities.
He observed that when an investor comes forward, he would like to have his project viable, and assured that if anyone faces any problem, he can help facilitate him and approach the government for overcoming the outlying problems.
Soomro said: "We are looking at every aspect and would ensure that investors are fully accommodated and facilitated."
He pointed out that growth rate is consistently rising and had reached the level of 7 percent this year.
In the agriculture sector, he said there is again tremendous potential besides, sectors like oil and gas, banking, power generation, mines, minerals, dairy and many other.
He said there is accessibility and desire to work together and anyone can come forward and make inroads into these sectors.
Earlier, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, in his speech on the occasion, spoke about the numerous incentives the government has provided to local and international businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in the country's manufacturing sectors and towards promotion of our exports.
The government is looking forward to encouraging the production of low skill, labour-intensive, dynamic products with respect to global demand and productivity potential, which is in fact our great strength, he added.
Besides, Dr Ibad said, the present government promotes the export of value-added products and expansion of production capacity of industrial goods to cater to the requirements of the international market. The governor pointed out that the Sindh government is also geared up to provide maximum facilitation to local and international investors to invest in various regions in the province and take maximum advantage from the numerous available opportunities that are yet to be explored.
