Pakistan and China called for upholding the principles of Bandung conference held in Indonesia in 1955 to ensure peace and security in the region and the world as a whole. "It is imperative to apply the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty, equality and safeguarding territorial integrity in state-state to relations," said Pakistani representative and a senior official of Pakistan Embassy here, while addressing a seminar that was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bandung Conference.
Pakistan has always been advocating for non-hegemonic attitude, together with the principles of non-interference and peaceful co-existence in the conduct of international relations.
"We believe that the principles adopted at the Bandung conference are still valid and effective promoting peace and development at all levels," he added.
While highlighting President Pervez Musharraf's vision of enlightened moderation, the official said it is essential for the peace-loving countries to work together to banish extremism, poverty and illiteracy.
About 70 senior diplomats and scholars from the regional countries attended the seminar, arranged by Asia-African Development and Exchange society of China.
Officials from other countries, including China, Indonesia, Egypt and Sri Lanka stressed the significance of the principles of Bandung conference and called on Asia to send out a message of its common will for establishing an international peace.
The Bandung Conference was held by Asian and African countries, ten years after the end of World War II. The ten principles of the conference have still been relevant today to establish a peaceful order, they added.
