Judicial reforms in AJK yield positive results: Chief Justice

Recent reforms in the judicial system in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have achieved positive results by providing inexpensive justice to the litigants. This was stated by Chief Justice Azad Jammu Kashmir High Court and Shariat Court Justice Riaz Akhter Chaudhry while speaking at a dinner hosted in his honour by eminent legal expert and former president Jammu and Kashmir Liberation League Chaudhry Sharif Tariq advocate here on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended among others by former Chief Justice AJK High Court, former Justice Abdul Majeed Mallick, District and Session Judge Abdul Rasheed Sulehriya, President District Bar Association, Chaudhry Ali Mohammad Cha Cha advocate, former DBA president Mohammad Younis Tahir advocate and members of the legal fraternity and the city elite.
Justice Riaz Akhter Chaudhry said AJK has achieved a major breakthrough in the judicial history of the state. This could be assessed through the fact that all the murder cases are now being decided only within 40 days after the submission of challans before the concerned courts.
The Chief Justice said he was determined to extend quick and inexpensive justice to the needy by the AJK High Court, Shariat Court and the subordinate judiciary.
He said subordinate courts have been directed to dispose off all the old and new cases in the stipulated time frame determined in the judicial reforms to ensure provision of cheap and speedy justice.
He said the system should be monitored on day to day basis adding, pace of disposal of cases by the subordinate judiciary as a result of the judicial reforms, have yielded positive results.
"Since courts were bound to make the decisions on the cases in minimum possible time as directed in the judicial reforms."
Speaking on the occasion host Chaudhry Sharif Tariq advocate appreciated the judicial reforms introduced by the Chief Justice AJK High Court and Shariat Court Justice Riaz Akhter Chaudhry since he took over the charge as the Chief Justice of the AJKHC and Shariat Court in September last year.
The legal experts here while appreciating the judicial reforms describe them a breakthrough in the judicial system not only in the history of AJK but also in the subcontinent.
