The Ministry of Water and Power has approved three proposals of Indus River System Authority (Irsa) to undertake studies for optimisation of reservoirs operation and measurement of water losses in river beds of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab, official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday. The sources said that departmental development working party (DDWP) of the ministry of water and power met under the chairmanship of its secretary and approved 42 schemes of Irsa, Wapda and provincial governments of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP for conservation of water, environmental management, land reclamation and flood protection costing nearly Rs 400 millions.
The sources said that Irsa would also undertake important studies for preparation of river flow forecasting model for Indus basin irrigation system (IBIS) and study for time lag between different hydraulic structures of IBIS.
The sources said that the DDWP also approved six important schemes of Wapda which included study of causes for water-logging and remedial measures along C.J. Link Canal, establishment of international water-logging and salinity research institute, integrated water sector environmental management programme feasibility study, detailed engineering design and tender document of Sukleji dam project and feasibility study, detailed engineering design and tender documents of Winder dam project.
The sources said that DDWP approved a scheme of the Sindh government for constructing stone pitching of S.M. Bund mile 48/5 to 49/1 and stone apron along S.M. Bund mile 48/5 to 49/3.
The DDWP also approved 30 schemes of Balochistan, NWFP, Northern Areas for flood protection, land reclamation and conservation of water. These included (1) construction of flood protection of agricultural lands/abadies of Rub Malezai area of Musa Khel, (2) construction of flood protection of houses in Killi Nasiran Kach Road, Quetta, (3) construction of flood protection bund of Militia bus terminal and Killi Gharibabad, district Nushki, (4) restoration and improvement of Sarwati flood protection bund Harnai, district Sibi (5) flood protection of Killi new Bawar along with Katwi Manda in Loralai district, (6) flood protection of agricultural lands/garden of Chotiar river Regora area of district Ziarat, (7) flood protection of orchards/lands of Killi Abdul Khalique Khawaja Imram, district Killa Abdullah, (8) flood protection of agricultural land/houses of Killa Kamalizai & Malik Yar, district Pishin, (9) flood protection of orchard/lands of Killi Abdul Rehmanzai, district Killa Abdullah, (10) construction of flood protection of abadies in Omza area, district Zhob, (11) construction of flood protection work for Miangano Batai on Kalpani Nullah (Re-costed), (12) construction of flood protection of agricultural lands and villages in Baboo Chin area, district Killa Saifullah, (13) construction of flood protection of houses & agricultural lands of Killi Karim Dad in Dhana Abdullahzai area, district Zhob, (14) flood protection of Kardgap, district Mastung, (15) flood protection of houses, Madrasa-e-Badar-ul-Uloom Tafheem-ul-Quran Nag, district Kharan, (16) flood protection of Nichara spring & channel, district Kalat, (17) flood protection of Surab Town, district Kalat, (18) flood protection of Mohallah Maur Joe Asia Abad Tump, district Kech, (19) flood protection of lands (Sher Muhammad Bent), district Kharan, (20) flood protection of Chah-e-Mast Mangocher, district Kalat, (21) flood protection of Bund Killi Abdullah Bahorzai Derneli, Nal area, district Khuzdar, (22) flood protection of Mauza Mastugni Bhit agriculture lands Pir Umer area, district Khuzdar, (23) flood protection of Nal Town, district Khuzdar, (24) construction of protective works at Gahkuch, Siolpi, Sandi, Sultanabad, Yasin in Ghazar district (Northern Areas), (25) protection of agricultural land and grid station colony against Mahl Nullah, Bani-Passari, Bagh, (AJK), (26) flood protection scheme for land and village abadies of Tapakai area, Khurram Agency (Fata), (27) Reclamation of land and flood protection of cultivable land and village abadies of Akbar Khel (Sher Khoon Khel) area F.R.
