Soomro reviews arrangements for APPCED moot

The 12th General Assembly of Asian Pacific Parliamentarians Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED) will be held here from November 14 to 19, 2005. Senate of Pakistan will host the conference to be attended by the parliamentarians from 46 countries of Asian Pacific region. The main theme of the conference will be water conservation and sustainable development.
The Acting President Mohammadmian Soomro presided over a meeting here at the Parliament House to review arrangements for the forthcoming event. Speaking on the occasion, the Acting President highlighted the importance of the conference and said that befitting arrangements should be made for the conference, which he added would provide an opportunity to promote Pakistan's image, its culture and tourism at the international level.
It may be added the APPCED was created to resolve environmental and developmental issues threatening the sustainability of efforts being made for the betterment of human being. Its aim was to assist each member country to evolve the required strategies and policy responses for addressing more adverse effects. Moreover, to focus on concrete efforts to effectively cope with the emerging challenges for sustainable development.
