After staging walkout from National Assembly, members belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians on Thursday marched towards Supreme Court protesting against what they termed 'unlawful detention' of party workers on the eve of Zardari's arrival. Although, Section 144 was violated in the federal capital, heavy contingents of police followed the protestors but remained calm. The PPPP lawmakers from both the houses of the Parliament took part in the protest and staged a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court building.
Delivering fiery speeches in front of the Supreme Court, the PPPP lawmakers made abundantly clear that they would not accept 17th amendment and President General Pervez Musharraf in uniform.
One of the articulate opposition lawmakers, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan told the gathering that government was pursuing dual policies, as on one hand it was beating the drums of democracy and at the same time barring the democratic forces to exercise their legitimate rights.
"Had such gathering been held in any other country, the government there would have jolted," he contended, regretting the Shaukat-led administration had no regard for such things.
Aitzaz urged the government to allow party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to make come back, saying their struggle against the uniformed president would continue.
Speaking on the occasion, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Zardari was not being allowed to offer prayer at Data Darbar.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani also lashed at the government's anti-democratic policies, demanding the immediate release of party workers.
Later, the PPPP leaders returned to the National Assembly chanting slogans such as "go Musharraf go" all the way.
