Earth Day is celebrated each year by millions of people world-wide on April 22. The year 2005 is its 35th year of Earth Day. The celebrations mark the anniversary of modern environmental movement that began in 1970. Earth Day is an international event wherein each country participates and organises kind of celebration in order to marks its commitments towards promotion of environment conservation initiative and to raise/build awareness of it among the general public.
The ministry of environment, like in the previous years, celebrated the Earth Day in a befitting manner in collaboration with PIEDAR on April 21, 2005.
The Earth Day function was organised at the Sir Syed Memorial Society Islamabad from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. The event was attended by teachers, large number of school students and concerned citizens. Besides, foreign delegates also attended the function.
This year theme of the Earth Day is "Protect Our Children and Our Future". The ministry of environment and PIEDAR's project 14 partner school students organised the event which mainly focused on children's participation in environmental conservation initiatives.
