Wage Board judgement review fixed for April 28

25 Apr, 2005

A full bench of the Supreme Court will pay a review visit to its earlier judgement on the Pakistan Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) Act of 1973 and hence the 7th Journalists Wage Board here on Thursday.(April 28). The hearing is listed as the second case of the morning in the Cause List of the nation's highest court of appeals made public here on Saturday. The case is listed by the bench headed by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Justice Rana Baghwandas and Justice Falak Sher.
Barrister Abdul Hafeez Pirzada is appearing on behalf of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) that had questioned the status of the Act on the national statute, while Muhammad Akram Shaikh and Raja Muhammad Akram are appearing for the newspaper employees.
The earlier judgement had declined to entertain the petition inter alia on the grounds of a case law laid by a constitutional bench some years that held that it was barred from going into the vires of the Wage Board award.
