Sindh food department procures 0.3 million tons wheat

Sindh food department claimed to have procured over 0.3 million tonnes of wheat till Monday and is well on its way to achieve its wheat procurement target of 0.5 million tonnes. Food department sources claimed that in view of the crop size, there are possibility that the target would be further enhance by 0.1 million tonnes to maintain stability in price structure.
Referring to wheat price, these sources said that delay in availability in gunny bags had affected the price structure, which had shaded Rs 20 to Rs 30 against the state set price. Now the finance department has released the amount for additional gunny bags and allowed lifting the stuck-up stock of gunny bags, which will help to accelerate the pace of procurement campaign and help us to surpass the target.
They said that climatic change with sporadic high velocity winds and drizzle also affected the thrashing process but by the end of the current month the process would gain momentum and so the procurement campaign. Meanwhile, the Passco has procured 150,000-tonnes wheat from Sindh.
According to them, harvesting in 15 Tehsils, from where the corporation is entitled to procure wheat, has only been procured 13.8 percent so far but by end of the harvest its procurement would be much higher.
