The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and the NWFP government have decided to evolve consensus on the name of chairman of arbitration tribunal sans the Prime Minister Secretariat, highly-placed sources in Wapda told Business Recorder. Sources said, Wapda chairman Tariq Hamid is meeting with officials of the provincial government on Wednesday in Peshawar to finalise the name of arbitration chief, adding the Prime Minister secretariat was not cooperating on the issue.
They said both Wapda and NWFP have recommended names for chairman of arbitration tribunal three times, but the response from the PM secretariat was discouraging.
Most recently, the PM secretariat has conveyed to concerned parties that names they dispatched for the selection of chairman were not appropriate, asking them to send new names, sources maintained.
Few weeks ago, the NHP committee headed by water and power secretary Ashfaq Mehmud had refused to provide guarantee to NWFP that the decision taken by the committee would remain intact.
This correspondent made a telephone call to seek views of the Wapda chairman and he confirmed that due to some engagements of the NWFP chief minister the meeting on the issue would now be held in Islamabad instead of Peshawar for appointment of arbitration chairman.
