THE RUPEE: stable trend in currency market

28 Apr, 2005

Despite rising demand for dollars in the interbank market on Wednesday, the rupee did not show big change versus the dollar at Rs 59.45 and Rs 59.46 for buying and selling, respectively, money experts said. They said that importers' demand for dollars for payments kept the rupee under pressure slightly but steady dollars supply did not allow the rupee to erode its gains sharply. The dollar came out of the weak spell versus leading currencies in international markets, taking a boost from the rising home sales data.
The euro lost further ground versus the local currency for buying and selling at Rs 77.25 and 77.55, respectively.
