KCCI rejects DTO demand

29 Apr, 2005

The managing committee of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) held a meeting here on Thursday to discuss the demand of the Director Trade Organisation (DTO) regarding the tenure of the president. The committee rejected the DTO demand in toto and said that the general body meeting of the chamber held on June 19, 2004 had decided one-year tenure of the president and the decision was communicated to the DTO. They said despite repeated reminders the chamber did not receive any reply from him.
The managing committee also decided that the chamber advocate would reply to the DTO. The committee said that the tenure of president is one year and it would remain the same.
Earlier, the DTO had directed the KCCI to convene a general body meeting of the chamber within 10 days to decide about the tenure of the president, ie, one year or two years. The directive was issued by the DTO through a letter on April 25 and was received in the chamber office on April 27.
