Egypt has laid a claim for one of the permanent seats to be created under the proposed UN reforms and says it has the support of Russian Federation. Cairo's claim is to the allocations to be made for the continent of Africa. A press release issued here by the Egyptian embassy on Saturday quoted the recent joint statement issued at the end of Russian President Validmir Putin's visit to Cairo this week that said.
"The Russian Federation regards the Arab Republic of Egypt as an influential and major member of the international community and in this connection, declares that Egypt is a worthy candidate for a permanent seat in an enlarged UN Security Council, provided reaching the broadest possible agreement on the Security Council reforms."
