Welfare ministry striving for relief to senior citizens

The ministry of social welfare and special education has demanded 50 percent reduction in Railways and PIA fares for senior citizens from ministry of defence. Sources told Business Recorder that the ministry was very keen and continuously in contact with defence ministry to provide some relief to the elderly people. A decision in this regard is expected in next few months. The ministry is also planning to establish "Senior Citizens Health and Fitness Centers" to provide the aged persons better health facilities and encouraging them to adopt healthy habits.
These fitness centers will provide advisory services and also suggest "exercises" for various ailments, such as joint problems. One such center will be set up in every district.
The sources told Business Recorder that the ministry would also strive for providing priority to ageing people in hearing of their cases in courts.
Special ticket counters at every airport and railway station is also in the cards for senior citizens. The sources added the ministry will soon announce free-entry facility for them in public parks and zoos.
