KESC asks consumers to help utility over come deficiency

01 May, 2005

Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has asked the consumers to control their electricity consumption in order to help the power utility overcome deficiency in the city. A senior official of the power utility told Business Recorder on Saturday that the corporation could not do anything with the sudden major power breakdowns, but try to maintain the smooth supply to the city consumers. The official added that the corporation was making efforts for early linking of Hubco with the KESC, which is likely to be completed in April 2006.
Presently, the corporation is generating 1300 MW with additional 250 MW by independent power producers (IPP). The Hubco-link would provide 1000 MW more directly to the KESC enabling it to cater demand for next two years, which is growing due to rapid industrial growth.
