Five hospitals medical superintendents authorised to buy medicines

A tender was opened on April 28, 2005, for supply of medicines worth Rs 40 million in the defunct District Municipal Corporation (DMC), District Council Karachi (DCK), Government of Sindh, which have been merged with the CDGK. The central purchase committee will decide about approval for purchase of medicines. At present, there is acute shortage of medicines in various hospitals, which may continue for a month. Another ADP tender is expected to come within 15 days.
The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has brought a shift in its medicine procurement policy by authorising five of its hospitals to procure medicines and other medical equipment on their own. According to official sources, this decision was taken recently, and Medical Superintendents of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Hospital, Spencer Eye Hospital, Leprosy Hospital and Homeopathic Hospital have been authorised to procure medicines.
