THE RUPEE: rates almost unchanged

11 May, 2005

The rupee managed to hold on to its overnight levels in the open market on Tuesday on the buying and selling counters at Rs 60.10 and Rs 60.15, respectively. The rupee resisted its slide on easy supply of dollars, dealers said. They expected that the rupee may continue its weakness but with limited erosion in the near future. The rupee showed slight fall versus euro, shedding 10 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 77.30 and Rs 77.50 on moderate demand in the overseas markets, dealers observed. In overseas markets, the dollar maintained a firm posture, holding most of its gains versus major currencies after strong US job data, dealers said.
