'Government to provide more loans to farmers'

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan on Tuesday said the government is committed to increase agri-production, which is necessary for socio-economic development of the country. He stated this while addressing a pre-budget seminar here organised by Kissan Boards of Pakistan on the special directives of Prime Minister. Sikandar Hayat said the government was taking all possible measure to provide more facilities to the farmers under the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf. In this regard, we have decided to provide more production loans to the farmers, he added.
About 30 farmers across the country along with the representatives of Ministry of Food and Agriculture were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government was paying full attention towards increasing the profitability of the farmers through better agricultural policies.
Sikandar Hayat said agricultural production had increased, which was a good omen, because it would help to improve the socio-economic conditions of the country.
He said due to government's efforts, the major crops like wheat reflected record predict in this year. Minister urged the farmers' community to come forward for the growth of agriculture and added that their active participation would play a vital role in this regard.
To a question, he said that it was premature to say anything about the budget, however, it would provide more relief to the people at grassroots level. Responding to another question, he said the government was taking a number of solid steps to solve the problems of farmers in the country.
