Cell set up to boost industrial output

Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Ministry has established a "Special Initiative Cell" to boost industrial production. A senior official in the ministry told Business Recorder here on Thursday that working on the establishment of the cell has been completed and it would be functional within a month or two. The cell has been established under the ministry, keeping in view the importance of product competition in the market, the official said. A joint secretary and two deputy secretaries with more or less a dozen member staff would run the cell. Initially, the cell has been granted supplementary fund of Rs 3.2 million, it is learnt.
Talking about the objectives, the official said that the main objectives of the cell included improvement in industrial technology, focussing on skill development, productivity and to take special initiative on cross-sectoral basis.
The cell will be small and an effective organisation to work on the mandate given to it in a swift and speedy manner. The cell will be the main part of the Industries and Production Ministry and would report to the secretary. It will have a separate budget. Due to its special mandate, the joint secretary and deputy secretaries of the cell would be given special allowances of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 each per month, respectively.
