A Lahore-bound train 27-Up Shalimar Express overshot at Bahawalpur railway station on Wednesday because its brakes went out of order. Train driver Chaudhry Bashir Ahmed told reporters that he had noticed at the outer signal of Bahawalpur railway station that brake system was not in his control and the train overshot instantly due to suddenly developed technical fault. Meanwhile, a Karachi-bound goods train coming from Lahore also lost its brakes at Samasatta Junction, some 100 km south of Multan. Resultantly, its locomotive and two wagons derailed and train entered the siding.
In another incident, a tractor trolley collided with Chiltan express near Rajanpur and smashed into pieces. However, no casualty was reported. Police have registered a case against a landlord Shehzad Ali on the report of guard-in-charge of the train, Ali Anwar. When contacted, Divisional Superintendent Railway Multan said they had ordered an inquiry into these incidents besides informing the railway headquarters about the developing fault in brake system, which may cause disaster.
