The first European Union documentary film festival will begin in Karachi on Friday aimed at creating a better understanding among Pakistani audience about diverse and cosmopolitan European culture, stimulate debate on similarities, differences, and contribute to mutual understanding and respect. The five-day festival being hosted by the Royal Netherlands Embassy on behalf of European Union, will be held at premises of Pakistan Institute of International Affairs PIIA here.
Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri and Ambassador of the Netherlands Marcel Kurpershock would attend concluding session of the festival on May 31, while Chairman PIIA Fatehyab Ali Khan will inaugurate it on Friday.
It aims to contribute to inter-cultural dialogue by showing various aspects of multicultural European society, such as the integration of immigrants in Europe, the impact of historical fall of Berlin wall, portraying rural live, and providing an inside into the concept of EU.
The documentaries to be shown include The New Europe, Co-operation That Counts, Un confine di Specchi-Italy, Ballroom Dancing Hungary, My Britain, 50 years on-UK, And The Endless Caravan & La vie sans Brahim-France, In Germany outside, Few good Women & Many men, We will carry on-the Schutze family-Germany, and Dutch Light-Netherlands.
