Geelani turns down Pakistan's invitation

30 May, 2005

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) led by Syed Ali Gelani on Sunday turned down the invitation of Pakistan to visit the country and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on June 2. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Majlis-e-shoora by majority vote with 11 in favour and five against the decision, Hurriyat sources said.
Talking to reporters in occupied Srinagar, Syed Ali Gelani said that Hurriyat meeting has outrightly rejected the invitation from Pakistan.
The Hurriyat-led by Mirwaiz and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front have accepted the invitation and they will come to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan for consultations and talks with Kashmiris and Pakistani leadership.
Local news agency KNS, quoting APHC sources said that Gelani is totally against the travel to Pakistan either through Muzaffarabad or through any other route, as he believes that travelling and holding talks with Pakistan was futile and the resolution of occupied Kashmir issue could only be arrived through plebiscite or through tripartite talks.
