Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Tariq Hamid has asked the chief executive officers of the distribution companies (DISCOS) to make all-out efforts to recover Wapda dues, a press release issued here on Tuesday said. Presiding over a performance review meeting of the Power Wing here at the Wapda House, Tariq Hamid directed that the reconciliation with the public sector departments as per different incentives/schemes announced, be undertaken at the earliest to ensure payment of Wapda dues by these departments before June 30.
The meeting discussed matters regarding the performance of generation, transmission and distribution companies. The meeting also observed that power utility has achieved the proportionate targets in most of the areas.
The system transmission and distribution losses were brought down to 22.8 percent during July-April 2004-05 as against 23.5 percent during the corresponding period of the last year.
The meeting was informed that as many as 672,197 connections were provided by the distribution companies up to April this year.
Wapda has energised about 9,500 tubewells during the first 10 months as against the target of 7,600 for the entire year. In addition, over 7,500 villages have also been electrified.-PR
