The Pak-India friendship must be on the basis of equality and all outstanding disputes, including core issue of Kashmir must be resolved so as to strengthen the peace process between the two countries. District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood, stated this while talking to a 21-member delegation of 'Pak-India Peace March' here on Monday.
Amer stressed the need for keeping open land and air routes between the two countries. Nazim Data Gunj Bakhsh Town, Tariq Sana Bajwa, Lieutenant General Naseer Akhtar (Retd), President Indo-Pak Soldier Forum for Peace Initiatives, Central Vice President Awami National Party, Neelam Shah and other officers of the city government were also present on the occasion.
"In order to maintain balance in military strength of two countries, Pakistan had achieved the nuclear capability and we salute our heroes, who enabled Pakistan to become nuclear power," he said.
He briefed the delegation members about Lahore's history and performance of the city district government, which resolved the problems of people to greater extent.
Head of Indian delegation, Sundeep Panday said that Pakistan and India should resolve Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of people.
He stressed the need for slashing defence budgets of the two countries so that maximum resources could be spent on the welfare of people.
Both the countries must abstain from purchasing weapon and warplanes. He also asked the Pakistani and Indian governments to simplify the visa process.
Amer promised to hold a peace march in Lahore. He announced plantation of Indian plants, which the Indian delegation would bring with it during the peace march.
Meanwhile, the District Nazim presented shields and books on Lahore history, besides Minar-e-Pakistan model to the delegation members.
