The Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition filed by former federal minister, Jehangir Badr, who prayed to the court to direct the respondent accountability court to allow him to produce more witnesses in a reference against him. The court observed that the practice of creating interference in the court proceedings cannot be encouraged.
The court further observed that it seems that the petitioner is playing delaying tactics and under these circumstances acceptance of his plea is against the ends of justice.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel contended before the court that the respondent court was legally bound to allow his client to produce more witnesses in his support.
He contended that action of the respondent court not allowing the petitioner to produce more witnesses was illegal and without lawful authority. He prayed to the court to direct the respondent accountability court to allow him to produce more witnesses.
The law officer, while concluding his arguments, contended that the petitioner was allowed to provide the list of the witnesses before initiation of regular hearing of the reference.
Now when the accountability court has concluded proceedings in the reference, the petitioner is using delaying tactics, he argued. He prayed to the court to reject his petition for being not maintainable.
The court, after hearing both the sides dismissed the petition and observed that the petition could not be accepted as it appears that the petitioner is playing delaying tactics.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) returned a petition after raising objection in a petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), praying to the court to direct the respondent government to curtail the defence budget as well as other non-development expenditure and spend the same for the uplift of the poor people of Pakistan.
The petitioner, M.D. Tahir contended that the respondent government is going to resolve Kashmir problem therefore, huge military force is not required. He also contended that the government instead of providing basic facilities to the poor people is wasting the same on non-developmental expenditures.
An accountability court would proceed with a reference against acting president PML-N Javed Hashmi MNA on June 04. The police would produce him before the court in tight security measures.
Javed Hashmi is facing charges of corruption and making illegal assets in excess of his income.
