08 Jun, 2005

Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Finance Secretary and member National Assembly (MNA) Muhammad Pervaiz Malik has said the budget 2005-06 was an attempt to make the rich richer and the poor poorer; and the increase in government employees salaries was not according to inflation rate. While addressing PML-N workers' meeting here on Tuesday, Malik said the budget has disappointed the poor, as it would not provide any relief to them.
He said trade deficit has reached to Rs 4 billion while investment was not visible in view of deteriorating law and order situation in the country. He said the foreign exchange reserves, as claimed by the government, have contributed nothing to the poverty alleviation.
He said tall claims were being made to reduce the electricity tariff but neither electricity nor any other tariff of utilities reduced which could provide some relief to the poor.
