Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) and AGRAGEX, the Spanish Exporters Association of Agricultural Machinery Components, Irrigation Systems, Livestock Breeding and Post Harvesting have agreed to introduce new concepts in the green house technology on mass scale level for the production of off-season vegetables and flowers to expedite the export of horticulture products. In this regard, the leading exporters of fruits and flowers and members of the Spanish delegation held a meeting with Shamoon Sadiq CEO, PHDEB.
According to a spokesman of the Board, the Spanish delegation was comprised of Inigo Sanchez- Cabezudo from AGRAGEX, Francisco Jose Peris Escamilla from Techidex, Enrique Fernandez Gomez from MSC Fabricas Agricolas and Muhammad Daud Khan from Economic & Commercial section of Embassy of Spain. They gave a demonstration on the technologies available with them in the area of horticulture and floriculture sectors.
Earlier, Sadiq welcomed the guests and apprised them about PHDEB role to exploit the potential of horticulture sector in Pakistan. He invited the delegation to join hands with the local partners and install a state-of-the-art facility for kinnow processing in Pakistan, as there exists great potential for export of kinnow from Pakistan.
He suggested them to send waxes and detergents to the kinnow processing units on experimental basis to determine the quality and acceptability of their products. He appreciated that Spain was exporting 5.5 million tons of kinnow per annum, which is 60 percent of their total production.
The delegation responded to various queries raised by the fruit processors and the entrepreneurs in the floriculture business on the occasion. They gave on assurance to the CEO to extend all kinds of assistance and technical expertise; they achieved in the fruit vegetables processing.
AGRAGEX is comprised of 166 associated companies spreading over the whole of Spain and dealing in 85 percent of the exports from horticulture sector. Techidex have 3 divisions namely chemical, machinery equipment and post harvesting.
