Chief Secretary calls report on Manchar lake water contamination

Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman has called for a report within one week regarding the contamination of Manchar Lake water as highlighted at a seminar. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan in Hyderabad organised a seminar wherein a report was presented that stated Manchar lake ecology has been destroyed through disposal of poisonous industrial effluents and human refuse; and its aquatic life is also being ruined with our own hands.
The report added that even concerned departments did not have any knowledge of metals present in the water and causing severe contamination.
Taking serious notice of the contents of report, the Chief Secretary invited views and asked for necessary inquiries by the Additional Secretary Local Government, Secretaries Health, Agriculture, Irrigation and Power and Environment.
