Federal Minister for Information Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that government had not imposed any restrictions on rape victim Mukhtaran Mai and she was a free person. Speaking in response to Pakistan Peoples Party Patriots (PPPP) leader Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan's claim that he could not meet Mukhtaran Mai, who is also her lawyer, Sheikh Rashid said she was a free citizen.
"I feel sorry if Aitzaz could not meet his client," Sheikh Rashid said adding, "I have read six statements of her in a newspaper today."
Earlier, Aitizaz said that he was suppose to meet Mukhtaran in Lahore and then in Islamabad but had not any contact with her and claimed there was pressure on her to change the lawyer.
He said he should be informed about her whereabouts as she also addressed a press conference in the capital on Tuesday.
