Import of daily use items from India allowed

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Marketing Rana Qasim Noon said the government has allowed import of daily use items through land route from India. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday Noon said private companies could also import daily use items from India by opening letter of credits (LCs). He said the government was taking necessary steps to improve agriculture-marketing system in the province and for that purpose, the government was spending huge amount.
He said the government intended to encourage maximum participation of women in the agriculture sector, which would help alleviate poverty in rural areas of the province. He said the government also wanted to improve the existing infrastructure in the markets and has allocated Rs 60 million for that purpose. He said the government would induct professionals in agriculture marketing so as to provide missing facilities of infrastructure for which the government has allocated Rs 7 million. He said the government was also taking necessary steps for the uplift of farmers and in that connection a pilot project would be started. Under that project, the government would provide pledge loaning facility to save the farmers from non-institutional credits and exploitation at the hands of commission agents.
