Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday said that around 100,000 new jobs would be available soon for the skilled youth in the media sector. Addressing the 21st Graduation Ceremony of the probationers of Information Group at the Information Service Academy (ISA) here, he said, the government's openness approach for the media had helped the country to emerge in the media revolution thus creating a number of new jobs.
He advised the management of ISA that it should undertake steps to cope with the requirement of the skilled youth for the upcoming electronic channels.
He asked the graduating information officers that they must acquaint themselves with the rapidly advancing environment in the media sector with complete dedication and spirit.
"A media person should work like a soldier, who goes to bed late and rises early in the morning," he said.
He said, it is a known fact that there is no match for the hard work and those who tune to this habit earn laurels for themselves as well as for the institution for which they work.
Highlighting the role of Ministry of Information, he said, being an important functionary of the government, it should be comprised of people having correct perceptions about the government.
He said the media in the recent age had attained such an importance that it could be used as "life saving drug" which if misused can prove to be a "weapon of mass destruction."
Thus every one attached with this most important profession should carryout his or her responsibilities in efficient and effective manner, he added.
Congratulating the probationers on successful completion of their training, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed expressed the hope that they would perform their responsibilities with full devotion and utmost care.
Earlier, Secretary Information Shahid Rafi speaking on the occasion said that various plans to improve the performance of the Ministry aiming to further facilitate the media sector were being made.
He said the Ministry had plans to set up a Mass-media University and Media city, both in Islamabad.
The building for establishing the Media city is being acquired from the Ministry of commerce and this process would be completed soon.
Director General ISA Kamran Khan in his address of welcome presented full report on the aims and objectives of the academy.
Graduating Information Officer Syed Khyzar Ali Shah presented vote of thanks.
