The General Dental Council (GDC), UK has recognised the dental degree of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, and now UHS graduates would be able to apply for registration in the United Kingdom. A letter has been issued by the registration office of the GDC, London which states that temporary registration will be granted to the holder of a dental degree from University of Health Sciences.
Pakistan provided that his/her papers are in order and they have received an offer of employment in the UK for a post approved by the Council.
It has been just two and a half-year, when UHS was established and in this short span of time; it has already earned the recognition of World Health Organisation (WHO), General Medical Council (GMC), UK and USMLE.
In this regard, UHS vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar said that last two years had proved the importance and vitality of government's decision to establish a health science university.
"UHS has changed the whole culture of medical education", he said.
He said that our goal was to regain the lost glory in medical sciences. He further said it was good omen that there was a change in the thoughts of those who were, in the beginning, against the creation of UHS and it seemed that they had started realising the importance of this university.
'One of our prime objectives is to develop a culture of research, especially at undergraduate level, for which university was taking concrete steps', he added.
FINANCIAL RULES 2005 APPROVED: The Punjab Governor/Chancellor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has approved the University of Health Sciences, Lahore Service Structures, 2005 and University of Health Sciences Financial Rules 2005.
According to a notification, the appointing authority of Registrar, Controller of Examination and Treasurer would be the Governor/Chancellor instead of Chancellor through Board of Governors. The Board of Governors, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive would exercise financial and administrative powers.
However, the Vice-Chancellor with the concurrence of the Board of Governors may delegate any of his financial or administrative powers to university officer, as he may deem fit.
