"University of Health Sciences Lahore is going to develop a critical mass of master trainers who would train our medical faculty in teaching methodology and assessment of examinations. Teachers' training is as important as improvement in examination system," vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar stated this while addressing a workshop held here on Thursday on "Writing Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)".
The workshop, organised by the Department of Medical Education, was specially designed for faculty members of forensic medicine, community medicine, ophthalmology, operative dentistry and surgery departments of affiliated medical and dental colleges.
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) vice-chancellor emphasised the objective content in medical examinations was gradually increasing and, therefore, it was imperative that medical faculty was aware of modern developments in the subject of evaluation and assessment.
He said philosophy the world over was that universities were meant for quality control in education. "We have to revoke antiquated and outdated techniques and set a new system", he remarked.
He further said, "We are heading towards an academic revolution in basic medical sciences which would be unheralded but whose impact would be palpable in two to three years' time", he added.
He told the participants that three of UHS affiliated institutes including Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC)/Jinnah Hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) Islamabad, and Armed Forces Post Graduate Medial Institute (AFPGMI) Rawalpindi had started B Sc Nursing courses.
Later, the participants gave presentations on MCQs development.
