The NWFP Assembly on Friday passed a resolution unanimously demanding of the federal government to announce a special assistance of Rs 5 billion to meet damages and losses caused by the recent devastating floods in the province. The resolution was tabled by Abdul Akbar Khan, leader of the PPP-Parliamentarians in the provincial assembly, after the budget wind up speech of the Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq, who also holds the portfolio of finance.
Akbar Khan appealed to the federal government that since the NWFP resources were not sufficient to meet the damages caused by the floods, the center should provide assistance of Rs 5 billion for the purpose.
The speaker put the resolution to vote and the house passed it unanimously.
Replying to the point of order of Bashir Ahmad Bilour of ANP about the floods, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs said that the administration of all such districts had been put on red alert and arrangement had been made to face the situation.
Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani himself had visited the flood-affected areas on Friday to review the damages and losses caused by the flood.
