The government is planning to equip the entire railway stations with air-condition facility, an attempt, authorities believe, would provide some relief to passengers in the scorching heat. "We are planning to facilitate all the stations with air-conditions to provide better and comfortable services to our passengers," official sources in the ministry of railways informed Business Recorder.
Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar railway stations would be equipped with the new fa cility in the first phase. "We have chalked out a comprehensive plan and three to four railway stations would be modernised initially," sources added.
It was informed that the idea was floated last year but it could not be materialised due to several reasons. "We are receiving plethora of complaints. It is hoped the project would be initiated soon," the sources added.
When asked about the financial constraints that caused delay in the programme, officials said there was no such problem at all. "Indicators clearly reveal that the financial health of the Pakistan Railways is improving and this healthy trend had been witnessed after a long time," they said.
It was informed that PC-I of the project would soon be submitted to the finance division to kick off the project.
Official sources claimed the new facility would not have any impact over PR fares. "We have reduced our fares recently and there is no possibility of increase in near future as well," they categorically said.
