With no pretensions to infallibility, Business Recorder has never hesitated to publish contradiction of its reports whenever factual mistakes have been committed, but it cannot ignore the innuendoes about its motives and integrity, like the ones contained in a communication (dated 23rd June) from the managing director of the Private Power and Infrastructure Board.
The head of the PPIB has taken exception to a report published in the issue of 18th June for drawing "wrong conclusions from the facts (regarding approval of two projects) to malign a national institution" and then proceeded to construe the report as an aspersion on the credibility of some of the highest officials in the economic sector of the government.
The concluding para of the communication extends an unveiled threat to this newspaper on failure to publish a correction, while 'maligning' it for not 'exercising' responsibility in its reporting.
We could have pleaded guilty had the PPIB chief accused us of suggesting inconsistency and lack of transparency in the management of the board's affairs. As for the rest of the narration of undisputed facts in our report, we would advise the Board Chief to re-read the minutes of the meeting which approved the two projects, and, if he so desires, those minutes can be reproduced for his convenience and to disabuse his mind about our motives.-Editor
