JCSC chief calls on Punjab governor and chief minister

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Ehsanul Haq on Sunday called on Punjab Governor, Lt-General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) and Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi here at Governor House and discussed issues of national importance.
According to an official handout issued here, the Punjab Governor informed the visiting guest about progress on plans for doubling the number of students at provincial universities and starting new disciplines at them in accordance with local industrial needs and requirements.
He told the JCSC chairman that owing to increase in funding from Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Punjab government for local public-sector universities, quality of higher education had improved to a large extent.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi informed General Ehsan that facilities being given to the masses under "Literate Punjab" had proved result-oriented.
General Ehsan expressed satisfaction over the on-going welfare and development activities in the Punjab.
